Engineering Manager, Payments

Airbnb is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the AirCover Insurance Platform. In this role, you will lead a team of senior and staff engineers to scale the platform from region-by-region builds to a configurable, globally scalable system, and build an experimentation engine to improve attach rates. You will partner closely with Product, Design, Data Science, Legal, Insurance, and Finance teams.

• Scale the insurance platform to new countries and products by making regulatory, pricing, coverage, and enrollment rules configurable.
• Build the experimentation foundation for testing coverage offers, pricing, placement, and messaging.
• Deliver a multi-year platform roadmap and global rollout.
• Apply data and LLM-driven automation to improve coverage decisions and quality.
• Work with senior leaders to define long-term technical strategy and architecture.
• Own the team roadmap, technical direction, and operational health, including incident response and on-call quality.
• Hire, mentor, and develop engineers.

• 10+ years of relevant experience in the tech industry, including 5+ years as an Engineering Manager owning large-scale software systems.
• Track record of setting and holding a multi-year technical direction on a live, business-critical platform.
• Depth in backend platforms, distributed systems, and high-availability services.
• Experience with insurance, payments, fintech, or other regulated domains is a strong plus.
• Strong product judgment exercised through data and experimentation.
• Experience managing and growing senior and staff engineers.
• Strong communication and influence with technical and non-technical partners.

Base pay range: $212,000—$265,000 USD. This role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.

This position is US - Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed with your manager. You must live in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity.
