Anthropic is an AI safety company. The Safeguards team ensures models and products are developed and deployed safely. We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead the Review Tooling team, which builds systems for investigating potential harms and taking enforcement actions across Anthropic's first-party products and third-party cloud platforms. This role owns the tools safety investigators rely on, including analytics, privacy-preserving primitives, and a sandbox for building new review interfaces. As model capabilities grow, you will drive scaling review through automation, building systems where Claude extends human reviewers while keeping people in the loop.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, grow, and develop a team of engineers building investigation, review, and enforcement tooling.
  • Define the vision and roadmap for the review tooling platform.
  • Drive strategy for scaling review through automation, including Claude-assisted workflows.
  • Partner with policy, operations, legal, privacy, and data science stakeholders.
  • Ensure review tooling evolves alongside privacy primitives and data retention commitments.
  • Create clarity in an ambiguous environment and maintain a high-performing team.

Qualifications

Minimum: Experience managing software engineering teams, technical background in full-stack or platform engineering, experience shipping internal tools, cross-functional collaboration, excellent communication, and care about AI safety.

Preferred: 4+ years management, 10+ years industry experience, trust and safety tooling, privacy constraints, LLM integration, developer platforms, enforcement systems.

Compensation

Annual salary: $405,000—$485,000 USD.
