Engineering Manager, Spending, Savings, & Investing

Chime is looking for an engineering leader to manage and guide one of the Spending, Saving & Investing (SSI) engineering teams. The SSI org focuses on building innovative, reliable, and member-first financial tools to drive active spend and usage, increase reliability, and deliver seamless experiences across cards, credit, money movement, saving and investing, deals, and transaction intelligence.

We're hiring Tech Lead Managers (TLM) for multiple squads. TLMs manage a team of 4-5 engineers, own execution and delivery, stay in the code, and use AI coding agents to raise leverage.

• Manage and develop a squad of 4-5 engineers: hiring, 1:1s, career coaching, performance management.
• Own delivery end to end, from sprint planning to service SLAs and operational health.
• Write and ship code alongside the team, authoring pull requests.
• Be accountable for technical direction, architecture, and quality bar.
• Use AI coding agents and tooling to raise leverage and establish durable practices.
• Partner with Product and Design on scope, prioritization, and quarterly planning.
• Act as cross-functional point of contact for technical capabilities and dependency coordination.
• Identify technical debt and advocate for sustainable engineering.
• Ensure quality, performance, and operational health, including on-call and incident response.
• Build growth paths for engineers towards higher IC levels or future TLM roles.
• Contribute to broader SSI and Chime engineering initiatives.

• 2+ years in people management responsibilities.
• Current, hands-on coding ability and desire to keep it.
• Track record of using AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor.
• Experience coaching team members on project execution, skill development, and career progression.
• Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with Product, Design, and Analytics.
• Interest in pushing technology, people, and organization envelope.
• Ability to motivate a team through aggressive schedules and goals.
• Experience with similar tech: Ruby, React Native, Distributed Systems, AWS services, and Service Oriented Architectures.

The base salary for this role begins at $199,000 and up to $275,000. Full-time employees are also eligible for a bonus, competitive equity package, and benefits.
