Head of Revenue Accounting - Deal Desk & Technical Accounting

Anthropic is an AI safety and research company building reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. As revenue grows quickly and commercial agreements become more complex, Anthropic seeks a Head of Revenue Accounting, Deal Desk & Technical Accounting to own the accounting judgments behind that growth — technical positions, deal approvals, disclosures, revenue systems, and internal controls. The role acts as the company's authority on complex revenue accounting questions, developing revenue recognition policies, leading revenue system enhancements, and designing, implementing, and operating internal controls. Much of the impact comes through influence: shaping deals before they're signed with Sales and Legal, and shaping the systems roadmap with engineering partners.

• Own technical accounting: research, conclude, and document complex revenue recognition positions in clear memos, and explain conclusions to internal stakeholders and external auditors.
• Own the deal desk from accounting: define accounting guardrails for non-standard terms, serve as the accounting approver in deal review, and partner with Sales and Legal to structure agreements that work commercially while maintaining controllership.
• Lead financial reporting and disclosure, including revenue footnotes and technical disclosure positions, building toward public-company reporting readiness.
• Lead revenue system enhancements — requirements, design, testing, cutover, and post-launch optimization — partnering with Finance Systems.
• Design and implement internal controls over financial reporting, including documentation, testing, remediation, and audit support.
• Apply Claude to streamline processes, including accelerating research, drafting memos, reviewing contracts, and preparing reconciliations and disclosures.
• Lead and grow the team: set priorities, mentor, and raise the technical bar as the team scales.

• Track record of leading and developing a high-performing accounting team.
• Deep expertise in revenue recognition under ASC 606 for software, subscription, or consumption-based business models.
• Personal ownership of complex technical accounting research, including writing position memos, defending conclusions with external auditors, and preparing US GAAP disclosures.
• Experience designing, implementing, and operating internal controls over financial reporting.
• Demonstrated ability to influence non-accounting stakeholders.
• Experience owning a revenue or billing platform (Zuora or comparable).
• CPA or equivalent professional accounting qualification.

• Public company experience or experience preparing a high-growth company for public reporting and SOX 404 compliance.
• Background at a national or Big Four firm.
• Experience with consumption-based, usage-based, or hybrid revenue models, particularly in AI, cloud, or infrastructure.
• Experience using large language models or AI tooling to automate accounting, contract review, or controls work.
• Hands-on Zuora implementation or operation experience.

Annual Salary: $300,000—$385,000 USD. Anthropic offers competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and office space.

Minimum education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience. Location-based hybrid policy: all staff are expected to be in one of Anthropic's offices at least 25% of the time. Visa sponsorship is available.
