About the job

Company

Databricks is the Data and AI company, providing a unified platform for data engineering, machine learning, and analytics. More than 20,000 organizations rely on the Databricks Data + AI Platform.

Role

As Manager, Forward Deployed Engineering, you will lead a team of Forward Deployed Engineers (FDEs) partnering with strategic Public Sector customers. You will shape how organizations migrate to the lakehouse, build AI and GenAI systems, and unlock business value from data. Due to federal contract requirements and client site access obligations, an active U.S. government security clearance is required; candidates with an active secret or higher clearance are strongly encouraged to apply. The position is based in the Washington, D.C., Maryland, or Virginia metropolitan area and includes periodic on-site work and client collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee regional performance targets including billable utilization, team growth, and hiring.
  • Partner with Account Executives, Engagement Managers, and Field Engineering leaders to scope and deliver Professional Services programs.
  • Establish best practices for project oversight, risk management, and quality standards.
  • Synthesize field insights to guide the Databricks roadmap and create reusable accelerators.
  • Serve as escalation point for high-stakes customer situations.
  • Mentor Forward Deployed Engineers through career pathways and technical coaching.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of people leadership experience managing technical delivery teams.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience as a technical solutions architect or data/AI engineer.
  • Demonstrated success leading large-scale data platform migrations and AI/ML programs.
  • Strong understanding of technical project delivery, including scope, timelines, and SOWs.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, including C-suite influence.
  • Familiarity with Databricks, Apache Spark, MLflow, Delta Lake, or the modern data and AI ecosystem.
  • Ability to travel to customer sites and Databricks offices approximately 20% of the time.

Compensation

Local pay range: $211,800—$291,300 USD. Total compensation may include annual performance bonus and equity.
