About the role
Anthropic is seeking a Performance Engineer to identify and solve novel systems problems, developing systems that optimize throughput and robustness of our largest distributed systems. This role is part of the AI Research & Engineering team.
Responsibilities
- Identify novel systems problems at scale
- Develop systems to optimize throughput and robustness of distributed systems
- Implement low-latency high-throughput sampling for large language models
- Implement GPU kernels for low-precision inference
- Write custom load-balancing algorithms
- Build quantitative models of system performance
- Design and implement fault-tolerant distributed systems
- Debug kernel-level network latency spikes
Qualifications
- Significant software engineering or machine learning experience, particularly at supercomputing scale
- Results-oriented with bias towards flexibility and impact
- Enjoy pair programming
- Interest in learning more about machine learning research
- Care about societal impacts of work
- Strong candidates may have experience with high performance large-scale ML systems, GPU/Accelerator programming, ML framework internals, OS internals, and language modeling with transformers
Compensation
Annual salary range: $280,000—$850,000 USD.
