Principal People Team Business Partner - R&D

Cloudflare is growing its People team and seeks a trusted Business Partner to serve as a strategic partner to senior leadership across Product, Engineering, and Security. Reporting to the Senior Director, People Team Business Partners, this role focuses on macro-level organizational design, talent management strategies, change leadership, and workforce planning aligned with business goals.

• Act as a trusted advisor to R&D executive leadership, translating business objectives into long-term workforce strategies, organizational designs, and succession plans.
• Synthesize complex qualitative and quantitative data, leveraging AI-driven insights and engagement analytics, to identify trends, mitigate risks, and design predictive people solutions.
• Guide leadership and teams through structural evolutions, hyper-growth scaling, and shifting priorities with minimal disruption.
• Partner with business leaders and People team Centers of Excellence to design initiatives around talent development, performance elevation, and total rewards.

• 12+ years of progressive experience on a People/HR team, with at least 3+ years as a principal business partner supporting complex, fast-paced corporate functions.
• Strong business acumen, linking HR strategy to commercial and operational outcomes.
• Curiosity about technology and operations, with a data-driven approach to diagnosing root causes.
• AI and tech savvy, using modern tools to enhance productivity and uncover insights.
• Proven track record of leading large-scale change initiatives in ambiguous environments.
• Experience building scalable, enterprise-grade programs and establishing credibility across a distributed organization.
• Empathetic communicator with radical candor, skilled in executive presentations and difficult feedback.
• High integrity, speaking truth to power with respect and dignity.

Compensation may be adjusted based on work location. For SF, SJ, and Bay Area Metro: $187,000 - $257,000. For Boston, California - Remote, Connecticut - Remote, DC Metro, Massachusetts - Remote, New Jersey - Remote, New York City, NY Metro, Remote - Washington, Washington (Kirkland), and Washington D.C.: $178,000 - $245,000. For Colorado - Remote, Illinois - Remote, Maryland - Remote, Minnesota - Remote, Nevada - Remote, New York - Remote, Rhode Island - Remote, and Vermont - Remote: $162,000 - $223,000.
