Cloudflare is seeking a lawyer with a passion for new technologies to join the Product Counsel team. The team serves as the frontline legal contact and helps solve some of the company’s thorniest issues. The role involves drafting and negotiating technology transactions, supporting privacy-by-design reviews, and partnering with commercial legal teams.
Responsibilities
- Translate complex legal analysis into clear, actionable guidance for product and engineering teams.
- Proactively assess legal risks and advise teams building services that reshape how information moves across the Internet.
- Review and architect legal frameworks for technology transactions, including technology partner agreements, inbound IP licensing, and marketplace arrangements for Cloudflare’s developer platform.
- Review marketing event agreements and support promotions and sweepstakes.
- Draft terms of service, disclosures, policies, and related processes.
- Apply privacy-by-design principles and partner with the privacy team on data-flow reviews, PIAs, and other privacy deliverables.
- Solicit invention disclosures, support patent strategy, and protect trade secrets.
- Partner with product and marketing teams on product marketing collateral and claim substantiation.
- Build and refine processes that enable the Legal team to scale effectively.
- Engage externally on behalf of Cloudflare in areas of subject matter expertise.
Desirable Skills, Knowledge, and Experience
- JD degree with strong academic credentials and admitted to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
- 4+ years of law firm and/or in-house experience, preferably with technology companies.
- Prior experience with Internet security and infrastructure companies is desired.
- Technical background / expertise is highly desired.
- Experience with copyright law and Internet law (e.g., AI Act, Data Act, net neutrality, DMCA, CFAA) is desired.
- Strong communication skills and cooperative team player.
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage many tasks on complex projects.
- Experience with Jira or other project management solutions is desired.
Compensation
Compensation may be adjusted depending on work location. For Washington D.C. based hires: Estimated annual salary of $150,000 - $207,000. For Bay Area based hires: Estimated annual salary of $158,000 - $217,000. This role is eligible to participate in Cloudflare’s equity plan.
