Senior Java Engineer

Join the Elasticsearch team to ensure shared platform functionalities are easy to use, performant, maintainable, and secure. The team owns common functionality like services, settings, scripting, and makes Elasticsearch extensible via plugins or Painless. They also own orchestration in serverless, CI/CD workflows, and delivery to serverless, cloud, and on-premise.

• Contribute to large projects evolving Elasticsearch core infrastructure.
• Automate developer workflows, integrating agentic apps.
• Design and implement horizontally-scalable features and APIs.
• Solve performance and concurrency issues.
• Improve observability of Elasticsearch cloud systems.
• Collaborate with the ES team, users, and open source projects.
• Support support engineers and own operational investigations.

• Experience crafting APIs and reasoning through tradeoffs.
• Proficient in algorithms and data structures.
• Strong core Java skills, including concurrency and classloaders.
• Hands-on CI/CD experience (Buildkite, Argo CD, GitOps).
• Experience leading large-scale projects.
• Proven track record using AI to accelerate development and debug.
• Ability to work autonomously in a distributed team.

• Knowledge of JDK internals, OpenTelemetry, Go, Kubernetes, Gradle.
• Experience in platform or developer productivity teams.

Base salary only, no variable component. Typical starting range: €87.300—€138.100 EUR.
