Senior Manager, Data Engineering

Justworks is a cloud-based HR platform that helps businesses manage payroll, benefits, and compliance. The Data & Analytics team is the data and AI center of excellence, and the Data Platform Engineering team owns the pipelines, platform infrastructure, and reliability.

As Senior Manager, Data Engineering, you will lead the data platform organization, setting technical direction, driving operational excellence, and ensuring the platform is reliable, scalable, and built to support growth. You will own the technical direction of the core data platform, lead a team of data engineers including managers, and partner with other engineering teams.

Responsibilities include: leading architectural decisions on cloud data infrastructure, driving operational excellence (observability, data quality, cost optimization, incident management, SLAs), setting engineering standards (testing, documentation, CI/CD, code review), maintaining infrastructure as code, developing and mentoring engineers, recruiting, and partnering with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications: 10+ years in data engineering, 5+ years with modern PaaS data stack (Snowflake, Fivetran, Airflow, dbt, Estuary), deep Snowflake expertise, 5+ years of engineering management including managing managers, strong architectural judgment, proficiency in SQL and Python, expertise with AWS services and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation), strong data governance/security/compliance experience, excellent communication, and a point of view on AI in data platform engineering.

Nice to have: experience with ML/AI workloads, regulated environments, streaming/CDC technologies.

Compensation: $240,000 - $310,000 per year.
