About Docker

Docker is a globally distributed, remote-first team building developer tools trusted by over 20 million monthly users. Our products include Docker Desktop, Docker Hub, and Docker Scout.

Role Overview

We are seeking a Senior Principal Engineer to serve as the technical visionary for secure software delivery across Docker's products. This individual contributor role owns the multi-year technical strategy for build security and software supply chain capabilities, working directly with the SVP of Engineering and executive team.

Responsibilities

  • Own the technical vision for Docker's build security and software supply chain capabilities across Docker Desktop, Docker Hub, Docker Hardened Images, and Docker Verified Publishing.
  • Architect systems to detect and prevent threats in the software build process, including compromised dependencies, malicious build steps, tampered artifacts, and untrusted base images.
  • Design provenance and attestation infrastructure, artifact signing, verification, and policy enforcement across developer inner loop and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Architect SBOM generation, dependency analysis, and vulnerability intelligence capabilities.
  • Integrate security capabilities across the full SDLC, from local development through CI/CD to production.
  • Mentor Staff and Principal engineers and represent Docker's security architecture externally.

Qualifications

  • 12+ years of software engineering experience with deep expertise in build security, software supply chain security, or SDLC tooling.
  • Hands-on architectural experience with artifact signing, provenance, SBOM, dependency security, CI/CD security, or vulnerability intelligence.
  • Expert-level understanding of API design, service architecture, and system integration patterns.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and modern infrastructure patterns.
  • Experience building products for enterprise customers with complex security and compliance requirements (SOC 2, ISO 27001).
  • Preferred: background in security or developer tools companies, experience with container technologies, Kubernetes, and open source contributions.

Compensation & Benefits

United States: $219K – $352K + equity. Benefits include remote-first work, flexible schedule, generous PTO, home office support, technology stipend, learning stipend, 16 weeks paid parental leave, equity for all full-time employees, and comprehensive benefits varying by country.
