Senior Software Developer - Query Engine, Database Internals - Elasticsearch

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the Elasticsearch - Analytical Engine team. This globally-distributed, completely remote team is responsible for building new analytics capabilities in Elasticsearch's latest aggregation framework based on a new compute engine, accessed via the piped query language ES|QL. The role covers design and implementation of new features, enhancements, and bug fixes.

• Build data-intensive features and fix bugs in Elasticsearch, making the code easier to understand.
• Research and implement data structures and algorithms for new functionality.
• Work with a globally distributed team on search and query (ES|QL) analytics capabilities.
• Collaborate with UI teams and teams building solutions on top of APIs.
• Become an expert in several areas of Elasticsearch, triaging community issues and pull requests.
• Write idiomatic modern Java (Elasticsearch is 99.8% Java).

• Strong skills in core Java, including standard library data structures, concurrency constructs, and lambdas.
• Experience with software systems engineering.
• Strong desire to optimize and use efficient data structures and algorithms.
• Ability to work autonomously and guide projects from beginning to end.
• Comfortable developing collaboratively, giving and receiving feedback.
• Experience with data storage technologies like Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proven track record of using AI to accelerate development, debug complex systems, and optimize code.
• Ability to collaborate across functions and teams, and transition between projects.

• Built things with Elasticsearch before.
• Worked in search and information retrieval space.
• Familiar with data structures and algorithms for information retrieval.
• Experience with data storage technology or building data analytics capabilities.
• Experience leading cross-functional initiatives.
• Worked with open source projects and familiar with source control workflows and CI.

Base salary range: $128,300—$203,000 CAD. Eligible for Elastic's stock program. Company-matched RRSP with dollar-for-dollar matching up to 6% of eligible earnings. Additional benefits include health coverage, flexible locations and schedules, generous vacation days, up to $2000 match for donations, 40 hours volunteer time, and minimum 16 weeks parental leave.
