About the job

About the role

As a Senior Software Engineer on the AI Enablement team, you will build internal platforms, primitives, and guardrails that make AI a trusted co-pilot for employees across Chime. You’ll work on systems like Archimedes, Bosun, and easyRAG that power internal AI assistants, developer workflows, and retrieval-backed applications. This team defines Chime’s golden paths for AI: opinionated but flexible patterns that help teams move quickly while maintaining safety, reliability, cost control, and governance. You’ll partner closely with Platform Engineering, Security, Risk, Legal, and product teams to build scalable, well-governed systems that support internal AI use cases from early prototyping through production adoption.

What you can expect

  • Build and evolve internal AI platforms such as Archimedes, Bosun, and easyRAG, enabling teams to develop and scale LLM-powered applications and workflows.
  • Design and implement reusable platform capabilities such as APIs, SDKs, templates, and shared services that make it easier to build safe, high-quality AI-powered tools.
  • Prototype and productionize new AI capabilities, identifying high-leverage use cases and turning successful patterns into durable platform features.
  • Define and improve Chime’s golden path patterns for LLM usage, balancing developer velocity with safety, reliability, and cost efficiency.
  • Develop systems that let teams launch AI-powered assistants and workflows in a standardized, observable, and governed way.
  • Establish evaluation, observability, and cost-management practices across AI systems, including quality, latency, safety, and spend.
  • Partner with Security, Risk, and Legal to implement practical guardrails for responsible AI development and usage.
  • Drive consistency and standardization in how AI systems are built, deployed, and operated across the company.
  • Collaborate with engineers and partner teams across Chime to embed AI into internal tools, workflows, and employee experiences.

What you bring

  • Significant experience as a software engineer building distributed systems, platform services, or internal developer tools.
  • Hands-on experience building with LLMs or ML services and shipping production-quality features on top of them.
  • Strong coding skills in at least one of Python, Go, or TypeScript/JavaScript, with comfort working across services, CLIs, and internal tooling.
  • A platform mindset: you think in reusable primitives, contracts, and paved roads rather than one-off solutions.
  • Familiarity with AI-specific engineering concerns such as evaluation, prompt and version management, observability, cost control, safety, and data privacy.
  • Experience partnering with cross-functional stakeholders such as Security, Risk, Product, and Operations, and influencing direction through strong technical judgment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical tradeoffs clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Additional requirements

Engineers are required to participate in on-call rotation. Being on call may include responding to incidents outside of regular working hours when necessary.

Compensation and benefits

Benefits include backup child, elder, and pet care, subsidized commuter benefits for eligible employees, comprehensive health, financial, and wellbeing benefits, generous vacation policy and company-wide paid days off, 1% of your time off to support local community organizations, annual wellness stipend, up to 22 weeks of paid parental leave for birthing parents and 12 weeks for non-birthing parents, and access to family planning reimbursement.
