Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Card Acquisition)

Affirm is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Card Acquisition team within the Consumer org. The team plays a critical role in shaping the first experience customers have with Affirm—building trust, clarity, and value from the very first interaction. As a Senior Engineer, you will be responsible for defining long-term technical strategy, mentoring senior engineers, and acting as a force multiplier through your technical depth, operational excellence, and ability to navigate ambiguity. You'll work at the intersection of product, design, and engineering to build polished, performant, and accessible user experiences that directly impact conversion, retention, and business growth.

• Own and deliver quarterly goals for your team, leading engineers through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems.
• Support peers and stakeholders in the product development lifecycle by collaborating with product management, design, and analytics.
• Proactively identify project, process, technology, or business issues, advocate for them, and lead in solving them.
• Take ownership of your team’s operations and availability by ensuring the right monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing, and alerting are in place to support “keep the lights on” and on-call efforts.
• Foster a culture of quality and ownership by setting or improving code review and design standards, and advocating for them beyond your team through writing and tech talks.
• Help develop talent on your team by providing feedback and guidance, and leading by example.
• Participate in an on-call rotation as a requirement.

• 4+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin.
• Track record of developing highly available distributed systems using technologies like AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Experience defining a technical plan for the delivery of a significant feature or system component with an elegant, simple, and extensible design.
• Ability to write high-quality code that is easily understood and used by others.
• Proficiency in making significant changes in a large code base, with a suite of tools and practices for safe delivery.
• Demonstrated ownership of your growth, proactively seeking feedback from your team, manager, and stakeholders.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with a global engineering team.
• Equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

Base pay range per year: 308,000 zł - 428,000 zł (Poland). Total compensation may include monthly stipends for health, wellness, and tech spending, and benefits including 100% subsidized medical coverage, dental, and vision for you and your dependents.
