Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Lake Analytics Platform)

Affirm is a remote-first company focused on providing honest and inclusive financial products. The Data and Storage Services team owns Affirm's data infrastructure across OLTP and OLAP systems, including databases, batch orchestration, streaming, BI, analytics tooling, and large-scale data platforms. This role focuses on the platform and applications layer of that infrastructure, building and operating systems that enable teams to work with data at scale.

• Design and implement platform features for automated provisioning, deploy pipelines, access control, service lifecycle management, and reliability tooling.
• Build integrations with CI/CD pipelines, identity and secrets management, external APIs, and event-driven hooks.
• Design and operate secure data access patterns including RBAC, managed-access schemas, dynamic data masking, secure views, and cross-database grants.
• Automate toil and build self-service tooling for access provisioning, data pipeline failures, service health, and secrets management.
• Build telemetry, alerting, and log infrastructure; establish runbooks and operational patterns.
• Participate in on-call coverage and triage production incidents.
• Contribute to the roadmap for semantic layer infrastructure, agentic application patterns, and AI-native data tooling.
• Set high standards in code review, design, operational readiness, and incident follow-through.

• Hands-on experience operating a cloud analytical data platform (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery) including access control, data masking, governance, compute management, and cost optimization.
• Experience with containerized applications: Docker, CI/CD pipelines (Buildkite, GitHub Actions), deployment automation, and rollout practices.
• Experience building internal platforms, developer tooling, or self-service infrastructure.
• Comfort building integrations with REST APIs, OAuth/OIDC, webhook ingestion, secrets management, egress networking, and identity/SSO patterns.
• Proficiency in Python and SQL.
• Strong operational instincts: instrument systems, write runbooks, own alerts, and treat on-call burden as a design constraint.
• Familiarity with semantic layer design, LLM-integrated platform workflows, and agentic data tools.
• Strong written and verbal communication; effective across teams.
• Equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor's degree in a related field.

Base pay ranges: $195,000–255,000 for CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT; $173,000–233,000 for all other U.S. states. Total compensation may include equity rewards, monthly stipends for health, wellness, and tech spending, and benefits including 100% subsidized medical, dental, and vision coverage for employees and dependents.
