About the Role
Duolingo is hiring Android Engineers at various levels. The role involves collaborating on software projects with product design and backend aspects, developing, releasing, and maintaining native Android application features in Kotlin, and mentoring and setting technical direction for junior engineers.
Teams
This role may be placed on one of the following teams:
- Subscriber Conversion Team: Owns surfaces that turn learners into subscribers, including in-app hooks, paywalls, purchase flow, pricing, packaging, payments, and subscription partnerships. The team runs a steady stream of A/B tests across iOS, Android, backend, and web.
- In-App Purchases Team: Owns Duolingo's in-app purchase business, including the gem economy, shop, avatar cosmetics, and collectibles. Builds purchase flows and the systems behind them, validated through experimentation.
- Math Progress Team: Builds experiences that connect Duolingo's math lessons into a cohesive learning journey, improving navigation of topics, grades, and course paths, and making learning progress visible through mastery signals, scored reviews, and personalized practice.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field
- Programming experience in Kotlin on Android
- Ability to communicate technical issues effectively to technical and non-technical stakeholders
Exceptional Candidates Will Have
- Strong programming experience building reactive Android apps
- Demonstrated self-direction, with a desire to learn new techniques and mentor others
- Experience designing clean and maintainable APIs
- Experience writing unit tests and testable code
Compensation & Benefits
Base salary range: $153,000—$207,000 USD, supplemented by equity compensation. Benefits are described on the Duolingo careers site.
