Senior or Staff Product Designer, Design Systems

As a Design Systems Designer at Harvey, you will define the foundations that make our product coherent, scalable, and trustworthy. The design system is the shared language between design, engineering, and AI. This role has unusual technical depth: you lead with design but are equally at home in architecture and implementation. You understand tokens, component composition, and scalable systems. The role is based in SF, NYC, or Toronto.

• Build an AI-native design system that sets the bar for design quality.
• Design, prototype, and ship production-ready system components in collaboration with frontend and platform engineering.
• Define and evolve core design system foundations (components, patterns, tokens) across complex AI-powered experiences.
• Shape component APIs, token structure, theming, and composition patterns alongside engineering.
• Embed accessibility, responsiveness, and performance by default.
• Establish contribution, governance, and deprecation models.
• Raise the bar for system quality through design reviews and critique.
• Own AI design and implementation workflows, establishing best practices for prototyping and shipping with AI.
• Establish in-code prototyping patterns for designers using IDEs.
• Document system usage and best practices.

• 5+ years (Senior) / 8+ years (Staff) of product design experience with significant ownership of design systems.
• A portfolio demonstrating high craft and system-level thinking.
• Deep design systems expertise, understanding the evolution from style guides to tokens to composable architectures.
• Excellent communication of system decisions and tradeoffs.
• Strong knowledge of scalable system architecture and component implementation: component API design, design tokens, theming strategies.
• Design Engineer experience preferred but not required.
• High ownership, strong opinions loosely held, comfort with ambiguity.

$205,760 - $315,000 USD, plus equity and bonus.
