Senior or Staff Product Designer, Design Systems

As a Design Systems Designer at Harvey, you will define the foundations that make our product coherent, scalable, and trustworthy. The design system is a shared language between design, engineering, and AI. This role has unusual technical depth: you lead with design but are equally at home in architecture and implementation, understanding tokens, component composition, and scalable systems. You will report to the Design org and be based in SF, NYC, or Toronto.

• Build an AI-native design system that sets the bar for design quality across Design, Engineering, and Product.
• Design, prototype, and ship production-ready system components in collaboration with frontend and platform engineering.
• Define and evolve core design system foundations (components, patterns, tokens) for complex, AI-powered experiences.
• Shape component APIs, token structure, theming, and composition patterns alongside engineering.
• Embed accessibility, responsiveness, and performance by default.
• Establish contribution, governance, and deprecation models.
• Raise system quality through design reviews, critique, and hands-on work.
• Own AI design and implementation workflows, establishing best practices for prototyping and shipping with AI.
• Establish in-code prototyping patterns and document system usage.

• 5+ years (Senior) / 8+ years (Staff) of product design experience, with significant ownership of design systems.
• A portfolio demonstrating high design craft, system-level thinking, and visual cohesion.
• Deep design systems expertise, including history and evolution from style guides to tokens to composable architectures.
• Excellent communication of system decisions and tradeoffs to designers, engineers, and cross-functional partners.
• Strong knowledge of scalable system architecture and component implementation: component API design, design tokens, theming strategies.
• Design Engineer experience preferred but not required.
• High ownership, strong opinions loosely held, comfort with ambiguity.

$205,760 - $315,000 USD, plus equity and bonus.
