About the job
About the Role
Datadog is hiring a Developer Engagement Lead to own how Datadog listens, responds, and participates across developer channels. This is a builder role within the Product org, not a traditional social media or community management role. You will build the operating model for developer engagement at scale, including monitoring and response systems, owned channels, and feedback loops into Product.
Responsibilities
- Build developer listening and engagement systems to monitor conversations about Datadog, products, competitors, and developer problems across Reddit, Hacker News, Discord, GitHub, X, LinkedIn, Stack Overflow, YouTube, and other platforms.
- Turn monitoring into action by identifying conversations worth joining, determining when to respond, and routing questions to the right engineer, PM, DevRel, support, or product expert.
- Own developer channels, including @datadogdevs on X and Datadog Developers on LinkedIn, including publishing, engagement, replies, and experimentation.
- Expand Datadog's presence in new communities, potentially launching Discord, creating a stronger Reddit strategy, or building participation models for Hacker News or GitHub.
- Define response guidelines, escalation paths, ownership models, and expectations for developer conversations.
- Create feedback loops into Product, surfacing recurring questions, pain points, objections, competitive mentions, and product feedback.
- Enable technical voices to participate directly in conversations instead of relying exclusively on brand accounts.
- Turn shipped work into conversations by bringing releases, changelogs, technical content, demos, events, and engineering work into developer discussions.
- Define measurement beyond follower counts, tracking conversations joined, response coverage, sentiment, participation, traffic, product discovery, trials, and signups.
- Run experiments on platforms, formats, tooling, workflows, response models, and engagement programs.
Qualifications
- Experience building an audience, community, engagement program, or similar function with measurable outcomes.
- Strong judgment about when a company should join a conversation.
- Naturally curious about developer discussions and able to identify relevant threads.
- Systems thinker comfortable with tooling, automation, monitoring platforms, APIs, AI, and lightweight workflows.
- Ability to create structure: monitoring rules, triage processes, response playbooks, escalation paths, reporting, and measurement.
- Experience earning participation from internal experts.
- Strong opinions about developer culture and platforms, updated by evidence.
- Background in Growth, Developer Marketing, Audience Development, Product, Media, Social, Technical Communications, or similar.
- Bonus: experience with social listening systems, developer platforms like Reddit/Discord/Hacker News/GitHub/Stack Overflow/X, launching Discord, creating triage workflows, familiarity with developer tools/infrastructure/observability/security/AI/open source, using automation/AI for monitoring, existing developer audience, or short-form technical content and video.
