Software Engineer, AI & Automation - Canada

NerdWallet is seeking a Software Engineer to join its Security organization, focusing on AI and automation. You will build production software and AI-enabled systems to make security work more scalable and developer-friendly. This role reports to the Security Automation Manager.

• Design and build AI-enabled workflows and multi-agent systems for security design review, threat modeling, policy Q&A, and vulnerability analysis.
• Build RAG and semantic search experiences across code and documentation repositories.
• Create automated code-review capabilities to identify insecure patterns.
• Build production Python services and APIs with attention to architecture, authentication, testing, and reliability.
• Design and operate scalable pipelines for ingesting and retrieving large volumes of data.
• Improve AI system quality through evaluation frameworks and observability.
• Manage production tradeoffs like latency, cost, and model selection.
• Integrate with GitHub, Slack, Jira, Confluence, and LLM providers.
• Apply security controls to AI applications, including prompt injection defenses.

• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong Python proficiency, including production backend services and APIs.
• Experience with distributed or cloud-based systems.
• Hands-on experience building production AI-enabled applications using LLM APIs, agents, or RAG.
• Ability to work through ambiguity and communicate technical tradeoffs.

Salary range: CA$123,000 – CA$188,000 per year. Benefits include monthly healthcare stipend, vacation time, paid sabbatical, wellness stipend, wifi and cell phone stipends, work-from-home equipment stipend, and RRSP with 4% match.

Remote position, can be located anywhere in Canada except Quebec.
