Software Engineer II, Back-end (Card Mgmt & Transaction Processing)

Affirm is a remote-first fintech company focused on providing honest and transparent financial products. The Affirm Card is one of the company's fastest-growing products, and this team builds and operates the systems behind every card issued at Affirm and every transaction processed across Affirm's card products, including the Affirm Card and one-time virtual cards. The team owns the core issuing and processing infrastructure powering authorization, transaction processing, account and card lifecycle management, tokenization, and platform security.

• Break down larger projects into individual tasks, deliver them in multiple phases, and collaborate with others to ensure timely delivery.
• Support peers and stakeholders in the product development lifecycle by collaborating with product management, design, and analytics, articulating technical constraints, and partnering on decisions that consider risks and trade-offs.
• Support the operations and availability of team artifacts by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and supporting on-call efforts.
• Contribute to community by engaging in growth and development activities such as participation in the interview process.

• 1.5+ years of experience as a software engineer.
• Experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems; proficiency in Python or Kotlin.
• Familiarity with distributed systems and technologies like AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Ability to turn simple problems into solutions that interact with multiple software components, writing clear, well-tested, extensible code.
• Comfort navigating large codebases, debugging others' code, and providing feedback through code reviews.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with a global engineering team.
• Equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor's degree in a related field.

Base pay range (CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT): $165,000 - $225,000 per year. Base pay range (all other U.S. states): $146,000 - $206,000 per year. Total compensation may include equity rewards, monthly stipends for health, wellness, and tech spending, and benefits including 100% subsidized medical coverage, dental, and vision for employees and dependents.
