Twilio is a remote-first communications platform powering real-time business communications and data solutions for hundreds of thousands of businesses. This Software Engineer role is on the Voice Connectivity Trust team, responsible for ensuring reliable voice communication for Twilio's Voice customers. The engineer will participate in all phases of the software development life cycle, including requirements gathering, design, coding, testing, deployments, and on-call support, owning and operating services in a distributed production environment using Agile methodologies. Responsibilities include designing and implementing real-time services with high throughput and low latency, working with stakeholders to deliver scalable solutions, collaborating with leads and architects, and solving novel customer problems for the Voice channel. Required qualifications: 2-3+ years of hands-on experience in large-scale distributed applications on JVM-based technologies, experience building RESTful services and event-driven architectures (Kafka, SQS), understanding of CI/CD pipelines, hands-on experience with cloud infrastructures (AWS, GCP, OpenStack, Azure), experience with on-call rotations and monitoring/alerting tools (Prometheus, Datadog, Grafana), excellent written communication, ability to evaluate AI-generated code, strong Java fundamentals, proficiency with AI coding assistants (Claude, GitHub Copilot, Cursor), Bachelor's degree in CS or related field, strong CS fundamentals, and ability to work in a team. Desired: experience scaling data tiers with SQL/NoSQL and caching, scaling production backend systems, and knowledge of SIP and Stir/Shaken protocols. This role is remote in the USA but not eligible in CA, NY, WA, PA, CT. Travel may be required occasionally. Compensation ranges: $138,700 - $173,400 for Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Vermont, or Washington D.C.; $146,800 - $183,600 for New York, New Jersey, Washington State, or California (outside SF Bay); $163,100 - $203,900 for San Francisco Bay area.
