About the job
Anthropic is scaling rapidly, and the volume of customer payments is scaling with it. We are looking for a Senior Manager, Cash Application to take full ownership of the cash application function within our Invoice to Cash (I2C) organization. Reporting to the Head of Invoice to Cash, you will own the team, daily operations, KPIs, SLAs, processes, procedures, and controls for cash application, running the function with minimal oversight. This is a people leadership role with a clear build mandate: the function works today, and your job is to make it run predictably and efficiently at many times today's volume.
Our operating model is automation first. Payment volume will grow many times over, and we expect the team to grow only fractionally, so the leverage has to come from auto-match rates, exception handling, Claude, and better upstream processes rather than from headcount. You will drive the cash application automation roadmap aiming for a largely touchless operation, define and refine KPIs and SLAs, develop a small high-performing team that manages exceptions rather than transactions, and keep processes and policies current as payment methods, entities, and systems change.
Key Responsibilities
- Take full ownership of the global cash application function, including daily operations, team output, systems, controls, and reporting.
- Build a small, high-leverage team designed around exceptions rather than transaction volume; hire and onboard specialists and contractors when automation alone cannot close the gap.
- Coach, mentor, and manage performance of Cash Application Specialists and contractors, and develop a team lead.
- Own and drive the cash application automation roadmap, covering auto-match rules, remittance capture and parsing, exception routing, and automated posting to the ERP.
- Serve as the day-to-day business owner of the AR automation platform for cash application, partnering with Finance Systems, Treasury, and the vendor.
- Champion Claude adoption within the team to remove manual work.
- Set and track automation and leverage targets, and report progress.
- Define, evaluate, and refine KPIs and SLAs for the function.
- Build and maintain dashboards tracking team, regional, and individual performance.
- Run a structured root-cause program for unapplied, misapplied, and unidentified cash.
- Own and maintain cash application policies, desktop procedures, and internal controls.
- Own the control environment for cash application, including segregation of duties and audit-ready documentation.
- Own the cash application component of month-end and quarter-end close.
- Manage day-to-day partnership with Treasury and banking partners.
- Partner with Collections and Billing Operations to resolve payment discrepancies.
- Represent cash application in I2C and Finance systems and process initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience managing a cash application or accounts receivable operations team, including hiring, coaching, and managing performance, in a high-growth or high-volume environment.
- Hands-on experience scaling a cash application function through significant transaction volume growth while holding headcount roughly flat.
- Experience implementing or optimizing a cash application or AR automation platform, with measurable improvements to auto-match rate, unapplied cash, or payments processed per head.
- Experience defining and reporting on KPIs and SLAs for an operations team.
- Deep knowledge of the end-to-end cash application process across wires, ACH, credit card, and lockbox.
- Experience maintaining cash application procedures and internal controls and working directly with internal or external auditors.
- Hands-on experience with an ERP such as NetSuite, Oracle, or SAP, and strong Excel or Google Sheets skills.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- 8+ years of progressive experience in cash application, accounts receivable, GL Accounting, or order-to-cash operations, including several years managing a team, ideally at a B2B SaaS or usage-based billing company.
- Experience as the business owner or administrator of an AR automation platform such as Tesorio, HighRadius, Billtrust, or Growfin.
- Experience with Stripe, Salesforce, and modern billing systems such as Zuora.
- Experience applying cash across multiple legal entities, currencies, and regions.
- Working knowledge of SOX controls and audit requirements.
- Experience using Claude or other LLM-based tools to remove manual work in a finance or AR setting.
- Experience building capacity models that show how automation changes the relationship between transaction volume and headcount.
