Staff iOS Engineer

The Media Foundation team delivers seamless, high-performance media experiences across all platforms at Reddit. This pivotal role focuses on shaping Reddit's media experience across all devices, driving innovation, and delivering top-tier video experiences. You will architect a highly modular, easy-to-integrate iOS video player, partner with backend media infrastructure and CDN teams, and work cross-functionally with product, design, and engineering. You will also set standards, coach and mentor engineers, and utilize AI-assisted development tools to accelerate prototyping and coding.

• At least 8+ years of experience as a software engineer developing user-facing iOS mobile native applications at scale, using Swift.
• In-depth knowledge of AVFoundation for video and audio playback, asset management, streaming, editing, and exporting.
• Strong understanding of Core Media for timing and synchronization and Core Video for buffer handling.
• Familiarity with HTTP Live Streaming (HLS), MPEG-DASH, MP4, and other streaming protocols, as well as streaming frameworks and CDN integration.
• Familiarity with reactive frameworks (RxSwift, Combine).
• Strong organizational skills and ability to deliver projects on schedule.
• BS degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• Entrepreneurial spirit, self-directed, innovative, and biased towards action.
• Excellent communication skills in a fully remote environment.
