Affirm is a financial technology company that provides transparent, predictable payment solutions. We are building an advertising platform and evolving Marketplace into a best-in-class shopping destination, with search as a high-impact surface. We are forming a new team to own recommendations and search experiences, improve customer experience, monetization, and merchant value, and lay the foundation for an agentic platform.

• Set technical strategy for your team on a year-long time scale and tie it to critical, business-impacting projects.
• Collaborate across teams in the product development lifecycle with product management, design, and analytics to manage technical sustainability, risks, and trade-offs.
• Act as a force-multiplier by defining and advocating technical solutions and operational processes.
• Own your team's operations and availability, ensuring monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing, and alerting are in place for on-call efforts.
• Foster a culture of quality and ownership by setting code review and design standards, and advocating beyond your team through writing and tech talks.
• Develop talent on your team by providing feedback and guidance, and leading by example.

• 8+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin.
• Extensive track record of developing highly available distributed systems using technologies like AWS, MySQL, Spark, and Kubernetes.
• Experience developing consumer experiences using UI frameworks like React.
• 2+ years of experience working in search or related recommendation engines.
• Experience delivering major features, system components, or deprecating existing functionality through technical and execution plans.
• Ability to write high-quality code that is easily understood and used by others.
• Comfort with ambiguity, from low-level language idioms to large system architecture.
• Mastery of gathering and iterating on feedback from engineering and cross-functional peers.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with a global engineering team.

Base pay range per year: CAD $181,000 - $241,000. Total compensation may include monthly stipends for health, wellness, and tech spending, and benefits including 100% subsidized medical coverage, dental, and vision for you and your dependents. Employees may be eligible for equity rewards offered by Affirm Holdings, Inc. (parent company).

Remote Canada - open only to candidates residing in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, or Saskatchewan.
