Fivetran is a data integration company that automates data movement across systems, clouds, and tools. Together with dbt Labs, they are building the data infrastructure layer for analytics and AI. Fivetran is looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join the Database Connector team, which builds and operates core replication technology for reliable, scalable data movement.
What You'll Do
- Design, build, and improve database connectors with a focus on correctness, performance, scalability, and operability.
- Investigate complex replication and CDC issues in production systems.
- Analyze low-level database behavior, logs, and transaction flows.
- Develop support for new database capabilities, especially Oracle.
- Drive software design and technical roadmap decisions.
- Improve observability, testing, and operational excellence.
- Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership.
What We're Looking For
- Significant hands-on experience building backend, infrastructure, or distributed systems.
- Strong experience with Java and/or C/C++ in production systems.
- Deep understanding of database internals, transaction semantics, and data consistency.
- Experience with data replication, CDC, ETL/ELT, migration, or connector systems.
- Experience investigating low-level system behavior.
- Strong system design skills for reliable distributed systems.
- Ability to lead technical direction and influence architecture.
- Strong communication and mentoring skills.
Bonus Skills
- Experience with Oracle internals, redo/archive logs, or log-based replication.
- Experience with database migration or replication products.
- Systems-level engineering experience.
- Experience with developer infrastructure or highly reliable data platforms.
Compensation
Ontario Pay Range: $167,548—$209,435 CAD.
