Staff Software Engineer

We are hiring a Staff Software Engineer to join our team. This role is remote and open to candidates in the US. You will take ownership of technically complex, mission-critical areas, define technical strategy, and design and ship full-stack features end to end. You will work across backend, frontend, and potentially mobile to deliver AI-powered products.

• Take ownership of technically complex, mission-critical areas and run with them.
• Define and drive technical strategy for new products and platform capabilities.
• Design and ship full-stack features end to end.
• Partner with product, design, and customer-facing teams to translate ambiguous problems into clear technical plans.
• Build and scale systems behind AI-driven products, including data ingestion, APIs, and workflows.
• Raise the bar through code reviews, design reviews, and technical mentorship.
• Champion Samsara's cultural principles.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• 8+ years of experience in software design and development, including building and operating production systems at scale.
• Strong full-stack fundamentals across backend services, APIs, and frontend (web or mobile).
• Proficiency in modern languages and frameworks (Go, Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, React, or similar).
• Demonstrated experience leading cross-team or cross-org projects from inception through rollout.
• Experience building AI-powered or data-driven products.
• Strong communication skills.

• Experience shipping AI-powered features in production, including LLM-based products, agentic workflows, or recommendation systems.
• Comfort with modern AI-augmented development workflows (Cursor, LLMs, etc.).
• Background working with real-world operational data (telematics, sensor data, work orders, inspections).
• A proven track record of mentoring senior engineers and influencing engineering culture.
• Side projects, open-source contributions, or other signals of curiosity.

Annual base salary range: $162,400—$290,000 USD. This role is also eligible for an initial RSU grant with no vesting cliff, and ongoing refresh opportunities tied to performance.
