Staff Software Engineer

Samsara is hiring a Staff Software Engineer to work on AI-powered products, building new systems from scratch at billion-dollar scale. The role is remote and open to candidates residing in the US. The team focuses on zero-to-one work, applying AI/ML to massive real-world datasets, and shipping capabilities that change how organizations maintain equipment, manage fleets, and run day-to-day operations.

• Own technically complex, mission-critical areas end-to-end.
• Define and drive technical strategy for new products and platform capabilities, from backend services and APIs to customer-facing UI.
• Design and ship full-stack features across backend, frontend, and potentially mobile.
• Partner with product, design, and customer-facing teams to translate ambiguous problems into clear technical plans.
• Build and scale systems behind AI-driven products, including data ingestion, APIs, and workflows.
• Raise the bar through code reviews, design reviews, and technical mentorship.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• 8+ years of experience in software design and development, including building and operating production systems at scale.
• Strong full-stack fundamentals across backend services, APIs, and frontend (web or mobile).
• Proficiency in modern languages and frameworks (Go, Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, React, or similar).
• Demonstrated experience leading cross-team or cross-org projects from inception through rollout.
• Experience building AI-powered or data-driven products.
• Strong communication skills and ability to translate between technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Experience shipping AI-powered features in production (LLM-based products, agentic workflows, recommendation systems).
• Comfort with modern AI-augmented development workflows (Cursor, LLMs, etc.).
• Background with real-world operational data (telematics, sensor data, work orders, inspections).
• Proven track record of mentoring senior engineers and influencing engineering culture.

Annual base salary range: $154,800—$212,850 CAD. Eligible for initial RSU grant with no vesting cliff and ongoing refresh opportunities, plus performance-based bonus/variable pay.
