Staff Software Engineer, Payments Compliance

Airbnb is a global marketplace for unique stays and experiences. The Payments team builds a world-class payments platform moving billions of dollars across 191 countries and 75 currencies. Payments Compliance is essential to avoid fines and market restrictions.

As a Staff Software Engineer on the Payments Compliance team, you will drive architectural decisions and implementation for compliance systems, covering compliance experiences, screening, and continuous auditing. You will set technical direction, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and mentor engineers.

Responsibilities include leading development of compliance systems, partnering with product/design/policy/operations, and driving systemic improvements.

Qualifications: 9+ years industry experience, BS/MS/PhD in CS or equivalent, strong communication, technical leadership, experience leading on-call teams. Nice to have: regulatory compliance knowledge, proficiency in Java/Ruby/Go/C++, HTML/CSS/React, high-scale architecture patterns.

Compensation: $212,000—$265,000 USD base pay, plus bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.

This role is US Remote Eligible, with occasional office/offsites as agreed. Must reside in a state where Airbnb has a registered entity.
