Staff+ Software Engineer, Platform

Anthropic is an AI safety company building reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We are looking for experienced software engineers to join our Platform organization, which builds foundational primitives that accelerate product development across Anthropic and owns infrastructure that teams depend on to ship reliably at scale.

In this role, you will independently scope complex, multi-month projects, drive cross-org alignment, and make architectural decisions. You will partner with research to productize cutting-edge capabilities and have lasting impact on the platform used by hundreds of thousands of companies and engineers.

We have multiple teams hiring, including Service Infra, Platform Portability, Platform Intelligence, Billing Platform, Platform Serving, Agentic Systems, Auth & Identity, and Platform Safety. Team placement occurs after the interview process based on your interests and experience.

• Build and maintain core infrastructure for Anthropic's engineering organization, including service mesh, observability, deployment pipelines, and shared libraries.
• Develop cloud-agnostic tooling, cross-cloud networking, and multi-region deployments.
• Scale the Claude API serving path, optimizing performance, reliability, and efficiency.
• Build billing infrastructure that turns product usage into revenue, including integration contracts, quote-to-cash automation, and reconciliation.
• Enable developers to securely give Claude access to data and build retrieval systems.
• Create infrastructure and APIs for agentic applications, including tool use, multi-step reasoning, durable sessions, and long-running task execution.
• Build identity and authentication infrastructure, including user authentication, authorization, RBAC, and SSO.
• Develop identity and verification products for safe model launches, including KYC/KYB and trust grant issuance.

• Have a minimum of 8 years of practical experience as a backend or platform engineer building scalable distributed systems.
• Have strong fundamentals in service-oriented architectures, networking, and systems design.
• Are proficient in Python, Go, Rust, or similar systems languages.
• Have experience with cloud infrastructure (GCP, AWS, or Azure), container orchestration (Kubernetes), and/or multi-cloud networking.
• Take full ownership of your work from design through deployment and operations.
• Can navigate ambiguity and make sound technical decisions independently.
• Take a product-focused approach to platform work.

Annual salary: $405,000—$485,000 USD.

Preference given to candidates based in NY, SEA, SF, or the Bay Area. Hybrid policy: all staff expected to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time.
