About the job

About the Role

We are looking for a Technical CBRN-E Threat Investigator to join our Threat Intelligence team. You will detect, investigate, and disrupt misuse of Anthropic's AI systems for Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosives (CBRN-E) threats. Deep expertise in chemical defense or biodefense is particularly valued. You will work at the intersection of AI safety and CBRN security, conducting investigations, developing detection techniques, and building defenses against threat actors.

Responsibilities

  • Detect and investigate attempts to misuse AI systems for CBRN-E weapons, pathogens, toxins, or other threats.
  • Conduct technical investigations using SQL, Python, and other tools to analyze large datasets and trace user behavior.
  • Develop CBRN-E-specific detection capabilities, including abuse signals and tracking strategies.
  • Create actionable intelligence reports on CBRN-E attack vectors and threat actor TTPs.
  • Conduct cross-platform threat analysis grounded in real threat actor behavior and open-source research.
  • Collaborate with policy and enforcement teams on user violations and mitigation actions.
  • Engage with external stakeholders including government agencies and scientific organizations.
  • Inform safety-by-design strategies by forecasting AI technology misuse for CBRN-E purposes.

Qualifications

  • Deep domain expertise in biosecurity, chemical defense, biological weapons non-proliferation, dual-use research of concern (DURC), synthetic biology, or related CBRN-E threat domains.
  • Proficiency in SQL and Python for data analysis and threat detection.
  • Experience with threat actor profiling and threat intelligence frameworks.
  • Hands-on experience with large language models and understanding of AI misuse for CBRN-E threats.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills and ability to work with diverse teams.
  • Ability to present analytical work to technical and non-technical audiences.

Strong candidates may also have: advanced degree (MS/PhD) in relevant fields, real-world experience countering WMD threats, experience with government agencies, background in AI safety or machine learning security, familiarity with synthetic biology, experience building threat detection systems, or active Top Secret security clearance.
