Anthropic is a public benefit corporation headquartered in San Francisco, focused on creating reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We are looking for a threat intel manager to build and run our Influence Operations & Surveillance team within Threat Intelligence. This team detects, investigates, and disrupts the misuse of Anthropic's AI systems for influence operations, coordinated inauthentic behavior, and surveillance operations by authoritarian states and the commercial spyware ecosystem. This is a ground-floor leadership role. You will stand up purpose-built detection capabilities, set strategy for countering state-linked information manipulation and surveillance misuse, and personally lead the most complex investigations. You may be exposed to explicit content and may need to respond to escalations during weekends and holidays.
Key responsibilities
- Own strategy, priorities, and outcomes for the mission area
- Hire, manage, and develop a small team of technical threat investigators
- Lead investigations into state-linked surveillance misuse including commercial spyware
- Stand up automated detection (abuse signals, behavioral clustering, coordinated-network detection)
- Conduct cross-platform analysis
- Attribute campaigns to state-sponsored actors
- Own external engagement with government partners, platform integrity teams, and researchers
- Drive public reporting on AI-enabled IO and surveillance
Minimum qualifications
- Deep subject matter expertise in influence operations, coordinated inauthentic behavior, or state surveillance / commercial spyware
- Led investigative or threat intel teams
- Proficiency in SQL and Python
- Experience attributing campaigns to threat actors
- Strong OSINT tradecraft
- Hands-on experience with large language models
- Ability to present to technical and non-technical audiences
Preferred qualifications
- Experience at a major tech platform on influence operations or platform integrity
- Background in intelligence analysis or counter-disinformation
- Experience investigating commercial spyware
- Experience with state-sponsored campaigns
- Fluency in Mandarin, Russian, Farsi, or Arabic
- Familiarity with social network analysis
- Active Top Secret clearance
Compensation: Annual Salary: $375,000—$455,000 USD.
Logistics: Location-based hybrid policy: expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. Visa sponsorship: We do sponsor visas.
