About the job

This position is needed to build and deliver Voice and Video functionalities to our customers through the Android SDKs. Programmable Voice and Video are few of Twilio’s foundational channels that empower our customers and internal product team to build delightful solutions. The features you deliver will be used by thousands of customers at scale, often as their business’ lifeline. Use cases range from contact centers to healthcare services, from warehouse staff to client advisors.

Responsibilities

  • Own the Android SDK architecture, implementation, and long-term technical direction.
  • Own the Android SDKs’ technical backlog and architectural roadmap.
  • Lead development and maintenance of the Android Voice and Video SDKs, including the underlying WebRTC/ReSiprocate/C++ layer.
  • Drive build pipeline stability and participate in CI/CD migration efforts.
  • Define Android best practices and serve as the go-to resource for Android-specific guidance across the organization.
  • Collaborate with iOS, JavaScript, and React Native SDK teams to align on cross-platform convergence efforts.
  • Conduct thorough code reviews and hold the bar on quality, correctness, and test coverage.
  • Partner with product and platform leads to evaluate feasibility, estimate effort, and deliver on roadmap commitments.
  • Contribute to knowledge sharing and documentation to reduce single points of failure on the team.
  • Continuously adapt to the evolving Android ecosystem to maximize engineering efficiency.
  • Enhance automated tests with high level code coverage.
  • Own Twilio’s customer’s developer experience.
  • Monitor and triage customer issues and Git repo issues.
  • Enhance Twilio Voice and Video Android reference apps.

Qualifications

Required

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience with a strong focus on Android development.
  • Deep expertise in Android ecosystem and SDK development, including knowledge of what Android developers expect from third-party SDKs.
  • Experience with real-time communication technologies (WebRTC, SIP, RTP) strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in Java/Kotlin in addition to C++.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD systems (CircleCI, Buildkite, GitHub Actions) and mobile build pipelines.
  • Strong communication skills — able to clearly articulate technical decisions and trade-offs to both engineering and non-engineering audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally and influence without authority.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and contributing to a collaborative team culture.
  • Familiarity with Claude and Github Copilot.

Desired

  • Experience with ReSiprocate or other SIP stacks.
  • Prior work on public-facing developer SDKs.
  • Familiarity with supply chain security practices for mobile SDKs.
  • Experience with Argo CD.

Location

This role will be remote, but is not eligible to be hired in CA, CT, NJ, NY, PA, WA.

Travel

You may be required to travel occasionally to participate in project or team in-person meetings.

Compensation

Based in Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Vermont or Washington D.C.: $171,120.00 - $192,510.00. Based in New York, New Jersey, Washington State, or California (outside of the San Francisco Bay area): $181,200.00 - $203,850.00. Based in the San Francisco Bay area, California: $201,280.00 - $226,440.00. This role may be eligible to participate in Twilio’s equity plan and corporate bonus plan.
