About Anthropic
Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. The Anthropic Fellows Program is designed to foster AI research and engineering talent, providing funding and mentorship to promising technical talent regardless of previous experience.
Program Overview
Fellows will primarily use external infrastructure (e.g., open-source models, public APIs) to work on an empirical project aligned with Anthropic's research priorities, with the goal of producing a public output (e.g., a paper submission). The program runs for 4 months full-time, with direct mentorship from Anthropic researchers, access to shared workspaces in Berkeley or London, and connection to the broader AI safety and security research community.
Compensation
Weekly stipend of 3,850 USD / 2,310 GBP / 4,300 CAD, with an expectation of 40 hours per week for 4 months (with possible extension). Funding for compute (~$15k/month) and other research expenses is provided.
Workstreams
This posting is for the AI Safety & Security workstream, which includes AI Safety Fellows and AI Security Fellows. AI Safety focuses on scalable oversight, adversarial robustness, model organisms, model internals/mechanistic interpretability, and AI welfare. AI Security focuses on reducing catastrophic risks from advanced AI systems, including offensive security research and red teaming.
Candidate Criteria
Ideal candidates are motivated by AI safety, have a strong technical background in computer science, mathematics, or physics, are fluent in Python, and are available to work full-time. Strong candidates may have experience with empirical ML research, large language models, deep learning frameworks, and open-source contributions. For AI Security, experience with pentesting, vulnerability research, or offensive security is valued.
Logistics
Fellows must have work authorization in the US, UK, or Canada and be located in that country during the program. Remote work is available in these countries, with optional shared workspaces in Berkeley and London. Visa sponsorship is not available for fellows.
