About the role

Lyft is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Core Rider team within the Rider Organization. This role is critical to the company's mission of serving and connecting communities through transportation. The manager will take holistic ownership of foundational systems and core rider functionality, directly impacting top-line business metrics and delivering a seamless rideshare experience. The role involves partnering with product managers, data scientists, and cross-functional teams to develop complex systems, define strategic roadmaps, and scale the product and infrastructure that powers millions of daily rider requests.

Responsibilities

  • Drive team execution, resolve bottlenecks, and make decisive trade-offs.
  • Partner with Product, Design, Marketing, Science, and Analytics to define strategic direction.
  • Translate high-level business goals into actionable projects.
  • Own team roadmap from conception to delivery, managing dependencies and risks.
  • Maintain operational excellence through observability, reliability, and on-call best practices.
  • Ensure technical excellence through architecture reviews, tech debt management, and engineering guidance.
  • Maintain team health by refining processes, fostering culture, and managing resourcing.
  • Develop team member careers through opportunities, expectations, and feedback.
  • Build cross-team relationships to share learnings and align on standards.
  • Serve as a high-bar interviewer and active community participant.

Experience

  • BS/MS or equivalent in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of software engineering industry experience with technical leadership.
  • 3+ years of experience with people management.
  • Experience launching consumer-facing products.
  • Experience working on a growth-focused team/org responsible for top-line metrics.
  • Experience managing a diverse set of engineering roles, such as server and mobile.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to communicate complex technical trade-offs to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Low-ego, highly collaborative, cross-functional mindset.

Work environment

This role is hybrid, requiring in-office work 3 days per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Hybrid roles have flexibility to work from anywhere for up to 4 weeks per year.

Compensation

The expected base pay range for this position in the San Francisco area is $176,000 - $220,000, not inclusive of potential equity offering, bonus, or benefits.
