Engineering Manager, Service Platform

As the Engineering Manager for the Service Platform team, you will lead the group responsible for Instacart's core deployment and release engineering systems, including canary infrastructure and end-to-end deployment tooling. This platform is foundational to the reliability of every service at Instacart. You will partner with product, infrastructure, and service teams to define and evolve a platform that enables fast iteration without compromising reliability.

• Lead both product and critical reliability systems like Temporal, Canary, and Deployments.
• Articulate and convey priorities and balance constant needs around the organization.
• Manage cross-cutting stakeholder relationships, prioritizing customer needs first.
• Navigate ambiguous, hairy, and technical problem spaces and fully understand deployment infrastructure end to end.
• Lead by example with a strong incident triaging mindset.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 2+ years of experience leading and managing people with emphasis on designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems.
• 7+ years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages.
• Proven track record of launching and shipping high-impact products; bonus for internal developer-facing products.
• Strong proficiency in maintaining high standards for production services.

• Strong communication skills and ability to contextualize problems across various audiences.
• Skilled at navigating ambiguity and involving the right stakeholders.
• Experience building and shipping products to users.
• Expertise building platforms and high scale infrastructure.
• Visionary thinker capable of generating transformative ideas.

Base pay ranges vary by location. For US-based candidates: CA, NY, CT, NJ: $230,000—$242,500; WA: $220,000—$232,000; OR, DE, ME, MA, MD, NH, RI, VT, DC, PA, VA, CO, TX, IL, HI: $211,000—$222,500; All other states: $192,000—$202,500. Eligible for new hire equity grant and annual refresh grants.
