About the role
As a security engineer, applications at Writer, you'll build security foundations for AI systems, working at the intersection of application security, AI infrastructure, and developer enablement. This role is hybrid from New York City, San Francisco, or Seattle offices, reporting to the head of security engineering.
What you'll do
- Conduct threat modeling sessions with product teams and design secure architectures.
- Own and evolve the application security program, including SAST/DAST scanning in CI/CD pipelines and security code reviews.
- Champion secure coding standards and create reusable security patterns.
- Design security features to protect customer environments.
- Integrate AI agents to increase security team velocity.
- Lead security assessments and penetration testing of applications, AI services, and APIs.
- Design security controls for data pipelines, model training, and customer-facing AI agents.
- Stay ahead of emerging AI/ML security threats.
What you need
- Minimum 4 years of hands-on application security engineering experience.
- Understanding of developer workflows and reducing risk while maintaining velocity.
- Technical expertise in at least two programming languages (Python, Java, Go, JavaScript/TypeScript).
- Knowledge of SAST/DAST, vulnerability management, security testing frameworks, and DevSecOps.
- Excellent communication skills.

Compensation
$131.8K – $257.7K, with equity.
