Senior Backend Engineer - Databases Pyroscope | UK | Remote

Grafana Labs is the company behind the open observability cloud, offering Grafana Cloud, a fully managed observability platform. With over 35 million users and 7,000+ customers, they are a 100% remote company with 1,600+ team members across 40+ countries.

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join the Pyroscope team, the open-source continuous profiling database behind Grafana Cloud Profiles. You will own meaningful projects end to end, from design to rollout, and help shape the team's roadmap. Key responsibilities include:

• Lead projects from concept to rollout, such as read path efficiency improvements or trace-to-profile correlation.
• Design, build, and operate core components of a distributed database: ingestion, storage, and query.
• Wear the product hat, joining customer calls and translating pain points into deliverables.
• Drive operational excellence, owning outcomes against SLOs and unit cost targets.
• Partner across Grafana with App Observability, Alloy, Tempo, and other Databases squads.
• Participate in on-call (EMEA rotation) for the services you build.
• Contribute to open source, engaging the community and reviewing external contributions.

• Solid experience with a systems language; we write Pyroscope in Go, but experience with Rust, C, C++, Python, Java, etc. is acceptable.
• Experience building and operating cloud services, with an understanding of multi-tenant data systems.
• Product sense and comfort talking to customers.
• Strong software craftsmanship and operational mindset (SRE-style work or infrastructure as code).
• Clear communication in a fully remote, asynchronous environment.

Bonus points for experience with profiling tools, OpenTelemetry, Kubernetes, AI/LLM consumers, open-source contribution, and remote teams.

In the UK, the compensation range is £91,755 - £110,106. All roles include Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). Grafana Labs offers a global annual leave policy of 30 days per annum, with 3 days reserved for Grafana Shutdown Days.
