About the job
Cloudflare is seeking a Senior Customer Engineer to support SLED (State, Local, and Education) and Local Government sectors. This is a 100% remote role, but candidates must reside in California or Arizona. The Customer Engineer owns the technical relationship from discovery through adoption and expansion, operating as a quota-carrying technologist. Responsibilities include technical validation (leading discovery, building architectures, delivering demos and PoCs), customer adoption and value realization, commercial accountability (carrying a variable quota, leading QBRs), trusted advisory, and AI orchestration (using AI agents to automate routine tasks). Minimum qualifications include public sector expertise, experience in a customer-facing technical role (Solutions Engineering, Customer Engineering, Sales Engineering, or Forward Deployed Engineer), broad technical acumen (web security, networking, cloud infrastructure, enterprise architecture), commercial mindset, and strong communication. Preferred qualifications include experience with Cloudflare's AI stack (Workers AI, AI Gateway, Vectorize), applied AI (prompt engineering, LLM orchestration, RAG), and coding in Python or JavaScript. Compensation varies by location: San Francisco-based hires earn $231,000-$290,000+ OTE (base + commissions); Los Angeles-based hires earn $221,000-$267,000 OTE. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, flexible spending accounts, commuter benefits, fertility benefits, mental health support, disability insurance, life insurance, 401(k) retirement plan, employee stock participation plan, flexible PTO, and leave programs (parental, pregnancy health, medical, bereavement).
