About Upgrade
Upgrade helps customers move in the right direction with affordable and responsible financial products. Since 2017, we’ve helped over 7.5 million customers access over $42 billion in consumer credit. We’re backed by prominent technology investors and were most recently valued at $7.3B. We’re consistently recognized for our collaborative and inclusive culture, including being named one of the World’s Top Fintech Companies by CNBC and Best Places to Work by Built In.
The Opportunity
Growth is where Upgrade turns its mission into new customer relationships. As a Senior Product Designer, you’ll join a team of designers, product managers, marketers, and engineers, reporting to the VP of Design. You’ll work on Upgrade’s newest products, including Boost Money™, BoostCash™, our mobile banking products, and new AI initiatives. You'll play a central role in how customers discover us, sign up, and come back: from their first BoostCash™ advance, to a successful direct deposit switch, and all the way to their first cash-back reward. You'll work on projects like onboarding and eligibility, offer presentation, subscription conversion, and direct deposit switching. You'll also shape the end-to-end experience of an AI agent that takes care of the tedious work for our customers. We’ll measure ourselves by activation, conversion, and retention.
What You'll Do
- Own product design for Boost Money™, BoostCash™, our mobile banking products, and new AI initiatives.
- Partner with Product, Marketing, Engineering, and Legal teams to turn exploratory concepts into actionable flows, prototypes, and polished experiences that ship to customers.
- Ship, test, and iterate on design work that grows activation, conversion, and retention.
- Make eligibility, fees, and repayment clear the first time.
- Manage several projects at once across product lines and keep stakeholders aligned.
- Contribute to and maintain the Upgrade Design System, ensuring consistency, quality, and efficiency.
- Mentor junior designers on Figma best practices and on AI and automation.
What We Look For
- 6+ years of experience in product design with a consumer mobile focus, and a track record of owning the user experience end to end.
- Excels in an agile environment with many stakeholders.
- Self-directed, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple projects at once.
- Expert Figma skills with experience mentoring junior designers on best practices.
- Experience in fintech or another regulated consumer space.
- Strong case studies on shipped work that demonstrate business impact as an individual contributor.
- Polished communication skills.
- AI is already part of your process: your portfolio includes at least one project where AI and automation changed how you designed, organized, or collaborated with stakeholders.
- Eager to work in person in our San Francisco office two days a week.
- Bonus: Experience with cash advance, subscription, banking, credit, or AI-assisted consumer experiences.
