Senior Software Engineer, Affirm Bank

Affirm is building its own bank, and this role sits in the engineering team that runs it. You'll join a deliberately small, AI-native team that owns the systems behind Affirm's bank: vendor-integrated banking infrastructure, durable workflows, data platform, and operational tooling. You'll work alongside other senior engineers with direct exposure to senior bank and Affirm leadership to launch the bank's deposit product, drive loan originations, and bring card issuing online.

• Own bank systems end-to-end: design, build, integrate, operate, and own incident response for cloud infrastructure, data platform, durable workflow orchestration, core banking configuration, CI/CD, networking, and Bank ↔ Affirm Inc integration.
• Be a force multiplier: set and improve code review and design standards, lift the bar on examiner-readable documentation.
• Ship AI-first: leverage AI tools and agentic workflows as a multiplier for code, design review, runbook generation, and operations.
• Own vendor relationships: carry one or more third-party vendor relationships end-to-end.
• Build for examiners: partner with Legal, Compliance, Risk, and Internal Audit to factor in compliance from day one.
• Own operational posture: set up monitoring, alerting, runbooks, and practices for reliability, observability, and audit-readiness.
• Influence beyond the team: communicate technical strategy to non-engineering stakeholders.
• Help grow talent: mentor peers and lead by example.

• 6+ years of software engineering experience with senior-strong, hands-on builder credentials.
• Comfortable in ambiguity and bias toward simplicity.
• Hungry to leverage AI to drive outcomes, fluent with AI-assisted development tools (Claude, Cursor, Codex, agentic workflows).
• Strong systems thinking across public cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred), infrastructure-as-code (Terraform), and cloud data platforms (Snowflake or comparable).
• Regulated-environment experience (banking, payments, securities, healthcare) with examiner-facing documentation.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication.

• Prior work inside a bank, neobank, Banking-as-a-Service provider, card issuer/processor, or fintech with a chartered bank subsidiary.
• Direct experience with a de novo bank launch or greenfield regulated platform.
• Hands-on experience with a bank core, card processing, or digital bank experience integration.
• Experience standing up a greenfield cloud organization.
• Familiarity with regulatory frameworks: FDIC examinations, GLBA / Reg P, BSA/AML, Reg E, Reg DD, Reg Z, model risk, and third-party risk management.

USA base pay range (CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT) per year: $195,000 - $255,000. USA base pay range (all other U.S. states) per year: $173,000 - $233,000.
