Sr Architect - Emerging Technologies

Twilio is seeking a Senior Architect for its Emerging Technologies Experimentation Team. This role drives next-generation innovation by designing, prototyping, and implementing forward-looking technical solutions. You will lead technical direction, mentor engineering teams across the US and India, and partner cross-functionally to align prototypes with business goals. The role is accountable for understanding Twilio's enterprise architecture, ensuring scalability and extensibility, and calling out one-way door decisions.

• Architect and prototype scalable, high-performance solutions using modern technologies.
• Experiment and iterate on new product ideas, leveraging AI, machine learning, and emerging tech.
• Lead technical direction, guiding and mentoring engineering teams throughout the development lifecycle.
• Partner cross-functionally to align prototypes with business opportunities and strategic goals.
• Mentor a group of software development engineers across US and India.
• Communicate technical vision and results clearly to stakeholders and executive leadership.

• 15+ years in architecture or principal engineering roles within innovative, fast-paced environments.
• Applied fraud detection and governance framework experience.
• Familiarity with AI, machine learning, and LLMs with experience deploying models or AI-driven projects.
• Demonstrated success designing large-scale, high-performance architectures across AWS & Azure.
• Strong leadership and mentoring skills, with proven ability to drive technical direction.
• Excellent communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Proficiency in multiple programming languages (e.g., JavaScript, Python, Java, Go).
• Experience with both front-end (React, Angular) and back-end (Node.js, Spring, SpringBoot) development.
• Deep understanding of database technologies (SQL and NoSQL) and their tradeoffs.

• Experience contributing to open source or tech innovation communities.
• Track record of rapid prototyping and iterative product development.
• Exposure to distributed systems and high-reliability platforms.
• Knowledge of risk management best practices in experimental projects.
• Experience working with global teams and remote-first environments.
• Entrepreneurial mindset with a passion for emerging technologies.
• Advanced problem-solving skills with ability to anticipate technology trends.
• Background in engineering and technical architecture roles.

Estimated pay ranges vary by location: $284,320 - $355,400 for Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Vermont, or Washington D.C.; $292,080 - $365,100 for New York, New Jersey, Washington State, or California (outside SF Bay Area); $324,480 - $405,600 for San Francisco Bay Area.
