Staff Backend Engineer - Mimir Query, Databases

Staff Backend Engineer for the Mimir Query squad within the Databases team. The team owns and operates telemetry databases (Mimir for metrics, Loki for logs, Tempo for traces, Pyroscope for profiles) as hosted services in Grafana Cloud and on-premise solutions. The Mimir squad maintains the Mimir OSS project and operates Grafana Cloud Metrics across major cloud providers.

• Influence roadmap and career objectives
• Deliver new features and iterate based on results
• Drive projects from initial idea to operations
• Design, build, operate, and maintain critical systems
• Participate in on-call rotations
• Collaborate with team and support other members
• Learn new skills and understand the cloud product and codebase

• Solid experience with at least one programming language (Go preferred, but Python, C, C++, Rust also acceptable)
• Experience leading and delivering projects
• Experience with cloud or systems engineering
• Experience with on-call and DevOps model
• Experience writing clean, robust, performant software
• Familiarity with observability systems
• Comfortable with microservices and distributed systems
• Experience with LLMs like Claude and Codex

• Experience with Kubernetes
• Experience with queue systems like Kafka
• Been a user of Grafana and Prometheus
• Familiarity with infrastructure as code

Base compensation range for this role in the United States is USD 174,986 - USD 209,983. Actual compensation may vary based on level, experience, and skillset.
