Role Summary

The Code Gen team builds AI-powered code transformation tools that convert rigid, legacy applications into modern, microservices-based architectures on MongoDB. We are seeking a Staff Engineer with domain expertise in modernizing legacy applications and significant experience leveraging AI, particularly LLMs and GenAI, for reliable, self-driving automation of code transformation, iterative build, and test processes.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with product managers, AI researchers, and engineers to translate complex requirements into robust technical solutions.
  • Drive the architectural vision and technical strategy for code gen tools, leading the team in designing and leveraging GenAI to build reliable, scalable building blocks.
  • Define and champion engineering best practices, patterns, and standards across multiple teams; act as a hands-on leader contributing core, foundational code.
  • Collaborate with security and product teams to ensure secure execution of code generation and LLM-based tasks, protecting client data and MongoDB IP.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in software development and operations, with a proven track record of delivering high performance, correctness, and architectural excellence.
  • Experience with relational databases such as Oracle, MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, or PostgreSQL.
  • Experience with tools and methodologies for code analysis, refactoring, and automated testing.
  • Experience designing and implementing complex software systems, collaborating effectively with engineers of all levels.
  • Practical knowledge of integrating GenAI into large-scale, complex systems, including understanding appropriate use cases.
  • Experience leading the design and development of complex workflows for AI model integration and output processing.
  • Excellent communication, time management, and project management skills.

Compensation & Benefits

Base salary range for U.S.-based candidates: $137,000—$270,000 USD. Benefits may include equity, employee stock purchase program, flexible paid time off, 20 weeks fully-paid gender-neutral parental leave, fertility and adoption assistance, 401(k) plan, mental health counseling, transgender-inclusive health insurance coverage, and health benefits offerings.
