Staff Software Engineer, Backend (Card)

Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, giving consumers the flexibility to buy now and pay later without any hidden fees or compounding interest. We are reinventing credit cards entirely, working directly with card issuers to change how credit is used throughout the world.

You will be the lead engineer for our EU teams, responsible for architecture across cards and relationships with our EU counterparts. You'll work across stacks and across the company, working both in just-in-time transaction processing that has to take place in milliseconds, along with our ledgering and reconciliation systems in post-transaction processing.

• Setting technical strategy for your team on a year-long time scale.
• Leading software engineering for all cards in the EU.
• Collaborating across teams in the product development lifecycle with product management, design & analytics.
• Acting as a force-multiplier through definition and advocacy of technical solutions and operational processes.
• Owning your team’s operations and availability, ensuring monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing and alerting.
• Fostering a culture of quality and ownership, setting code review and design standards.
• Developing talent on your team by providing feedback and guidance.
• Participating in on-call rotation.

• 8+ years of experience as a software engineer.
• Proficient in designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale with technologies like Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Proficient in developing front end applications.
• Experience delivering major features, system components or deprecating existing functionality.
• Thrive in ambiguity, comfortable moving from low level language idioms to architecture of large systems.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Base pay range per year: €103,000 - €139,000. Total compensation may include monthly stipends for health, wellness and tech spending, and benefits including 100% subsidized medical coverage, dental and vision for you and your dependents.
