Staff Software Engineer (L4) Data Platform

We are seeking an experienced Staff Engineer to join our Data Substrate team. In this role, you will architect scalable and reliable data solutions, collaborate with cross-functional partners, drive technical innovation, and mentor a team of talented engineers.

• Serve as a subject matter expert in distributed systems and data technologies.
• Architect and implement scalable data systems, storage solutions, and processing frameworks.
• Drive technical innovation and research in emerging data technologies.
• Mentor and coach engineers, fostering technical excellence.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
• Ensure data quality, integrity, and security throughout the data lifecycle.

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• 8+ years of experience in software development.
• Proven track record of architecting and delivering complex data projects at scale.
• Expertise in big data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, and distributed computing.
• Experience with AWS technologies.
• Proficiency in Python, Java, or Scala.
• Experience with Data Lakehouse architectures (Hudi, Iceberg, or Delta).
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Strong leadership and mentoring skills.

• Contributions to OSS projects.
• Familiarity with data modeling, data warehousing, and ETL processes.

The estimated pay ranges for this role are as follows: Based in Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Vermont or Washington D.C.: $171,120.00 to $213,900.00; Based in New York, New Jersey, Washington State, or California (outside of the San Francisco Bay area): $181,200.00 to $226,500.00; Based in the San Francisco Bay area, California: $201,280.00 to $251,600.00. This role may be eligible to participate in Twilio’s equity plan and corporate bonus plan.
