About the job

Anthropic is a public benefit corporation headquartered in San Francisco, focused on creating reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We are looking for software engineers to help build safety and oversight mechanisms for our AI systems, specifically focusing on the data foundations that make detection, evaluation, and review systems work.

Responsibilities

  • Build and operate the data platform that powers Safeguards, including ingestion and processing pipelines, warehouses and other data stores, and schemas and interfaces.
  • Keep Safeguards systems running day to day, holding a high operational bar while reducing manual effort.
  • Own data governance and integrity, including retention, access controls, privacy-preserving handling of sensitive data, lineage, and correctness guarantees.
  • Design systems that run portably across cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure) within customer-managed and third-party environments.
  • Partner with analysts, investigators, and researchers to build internal tooling.

Minimum qualifications

  • Proficiency in Python and SQL.
  • Experience building and operating data pipelines or data stores in production.
  • Ability to work across the data stack, including ingestion, storage, and consumption.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred qualifications

  • Extensive experience as a software engineer on data-intensive systems.
  • Experience with integrity, spam, fraud, or abuse detection.
  • Experience building trust and safety detection for AI/ML systems.
  • Experience with large-scale distributed data infrastructure.
  • Experience across multiple cloud providers or provider-agnostic infrastructure.
  • Experience meeting data governance requirements in regulated or high-sensitivity domains.
  • Experience working with operational teams to build custom internal tooling.

Compensation

Annual salary: $320,000—$485,000 USD.
