Distributed Systems Engineer - Data Platform - Logs and Audit Logs

Cloudflare is seeking an experienced Distributed Systems Engineer to join the Data Organisation, specifically the Logs and Audit Logs group. This role involves designing, building, and operating a robust logging platform that ensures reliable data delivery and secure transfer to customer destinations. The team is responsible for building high-performance data connectors, managing audit logs, and scaling the data delivery pipeline to handle massive volumes with low latency.

• Design, build, and operate a robust logging platform, ensuring reliable logging and secure data transfer to a wide array of customer destinations and third-party integrations.
• Develop and maintain high-performance data connectors and integrations for log-shipping products.
• Create and manage systems for handling comprehensive audit logs, ensuring secure delivery and compliance.
• Scale and optimise the data delivery pipeline to handle massive data volumes with low latency.
• Work closely with Product and engineering teams to define requirements for a new logging platform.
• Maintain operational health through monitoring and on-call rotation.
• Collaborate on architectural evolution of the data egress platform.

• 3+ years of experience in software development covering distributed systems and data pipelines.
• Strong programming skills, preferably in Go.
• Hands-on experience with observability stacks including Prometheus and Grafana.
• Strong knowledge of SQL and query optimisation.
• Solid foundation in computer science, including algorithms, data structures, distributed systems, and concurrency.
• Experience with data streaming technologies (e.g., Kafka, Flink) is a plus.
• Experience with logging platforms or SIEMs (e.g., Splunk, Datadog, Sumo Logic) and storage destinations (e.g., S3, R2, GCS) is a plus.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools like SALT or Terraform is a plus.
• Experience with Linux container technologies like Docker and Kubernetes is a plus.

Compensation varies by location. For Denver-based hires: $136,000 - $231,000. For Washington, D.C. and Seattle-based hires: $150,000 - $154,000. For Portugal-based hires: €54,000 - €91,000. This role is eligible for Cloudflare's equity plan.
