Principal Engineer, Online Systems

As a Principal Engineer on the Online Systems team, you will power Pinterest's most business-critical online systems at massive scale, driving reliability, efficiency, and evolution behind every core Pinner and Advertiser experience.

• Improve reliability, scalability, and infrastructure efficiency for critical online systems across storage, caching, online services, and realtime analytics.
• Lead cross-functional initiatives to modernize the online serving stack through multi-region deployment, Kubernetes migration, and adoption of cutting-edge technologies.
• Champion quality and operational excellence across the engineering organization.
• Drive the online systems vision and strategy for the next 3 years, translating it into cross-functional roadmaps with measurable outcomes.
• Foster an inclusive engineering culture and invest in mentorship and feedback.

• 12+ years of software engineering experience with deep expertise in distributed systems, especially online serving, storage, and caching.
• Proficiency in at least one of C++, Java, or Python.
• Proven track record of driving large-scale technical impact, including reliability, scalability, cost efficiency, and modernization.
• Strong ownership, quality mindset, and thoughtful use of AI.
• Exceptional collaboration skills and ability to navigate ambiguity.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.

Base salary range: $285,452—$499,541 USD, plus equity. Final salary based on location, experience, and skills.
