About the Role
As the Product Design Manager for Payroll, you will lead design for one of Gusto's most complex product areas. You'll manage a team of designers, set UX direction, and partner with Product, Engineering, Research, Data, Ops, Compliance, and others. Responsibilities include leading end-to-end design, defining long-term UX vision, leading AI and automation initiatives, mentoring designers, and setting quality standards for AI-assisted design work.
Qualifications
- 8–10+ years of product design experience, with at least 3 years leading design teams.
- Experience in complex domains (financial products, healthcare, regulated environments).
- Experience setting UX direction across multiple teams and influencing product strategy.
- Experience leading product initiatives where AI or automation is central.
- Ability to assess AI-generated design directions.
- Deep systems thinking and ability to simplify complex workflows.
- Experience leading a team through an AI workflow transition.
- Clear communication and storytelling skills.
Compensation
Cash compensation range is $172,000/yr to $215,000/yr in Denver & most remote locations, and $202,000/yr to $253,000/yr in San Francisco, Seattle & New York. Final offers vary based on experience and expertise.
